Dr Ram Hariharan is a Consultant in Spinal Injuries at the Princess Royal Spinal
Injury Centre (PRSIC), in the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. A 60 bed centre,
PRISC is a centre of excellence, second only to the unit at Stoke Mandeville in
terms of size and numbers of patients treated. It provides comprehensive Spinal
Cord Injury (SCI) services incorporating acute, rehabilitation and continuing care
facilities – including specialist plastic and urological surgery.
Prior to 2012, Dr Hariharan held the post of acting Consultant, at the Yorkshire
Regional Spinal Injuries Centre in Pinderfields General Hospital Wakefield, having
been an Associate Specialist there for five years.
Dr Hariharan specialises in rehabilitation medicine. The PRSIC rehabilitation team
are highly specialised and experienced in their care and management of SCI
patients and practice a realistic and holistic approach to both rehabilitation and
resettlement. They work in close collaboration with SIA’s Support Network Officer,
and Dr Hariharan has met with key SIA staff to progress the ongoing relationship
between SIA and the Centre.
Dr Hariharan has significant research experience in the field of SCI, and has
published a number of articles and presentations in this field. He brings a wealth
of clinical experience to SIA’s Governing Council and fully appreciates the vital role
played by SIA in Spinal Cord Injury Centres.
